If you have a Huxley Alert Emergency please go directly to the Contact Us page and send us as much information as you can. And then visit the Lost Child/Pet Help page. We will do everything we can to help you get the word out.
We lost Huxley on December 16th, 2007 and were able to get him back on December 20th with the help and support of friends and family. This website is a way for us show our thanks and provide a needed service to the community.
Thank you everyone for your kind words during our time of need. We couldn’t have done it without you!
When Huxley went missing we didn’t know where to go, who to call, or who to talk to. There was also no easy way for us to communicate with the people in our neighborhood. We felt hopeless and lost, just like Huxley.
When we spoke to the police department we found there has not been a neighborhood watch where we live since 2002.
We want to help the community and surrounding communities so people do not have to go through what we did.
One of the things we learned while handing out over 300 flyers door to door was while it was effective, it was far from an efficient way to reach out to our neighborhood. After handing these out, we had no way to give updates on the situation. There had to be a better way. This is why we created HuxleyHugs.com.
Our core mission at HuxleyHugs is:
- To bring neighborhoods closer together
- Help neighborhoods establish/re-establish a Neighborhood Watch Program
- Provide an effective and quick electronic communication system (Huxley Alerts) to send out and receive alerts and updates to emergencies in the neighborhood for lost children/pets, etc.
- Raise money (HuxleyHugs) to improve services and policies that make our neighborhoods safe and to thank those who already do an impeccable job
- Foster activities to help neighborhoods be a close-knit society where families feel connected, neighbors help one another in times of need, and people work as a community to bring everyone closer together
|
Our vision is to arrive at locations, the police department, animal shelter, fire-department, etc. and donate equipment and/or money on behalf of the local community and HuxleyHugs to thank them for doing such a great job.
We see Huxley and HuxleyHugs becoming an icon and mascot for bringing neighborhoods closer together. Huxley is an image children can identify with that will give them the comfortable feeling that something is being done to make their neighborhood safe.
They say it takes a village to raise a child; it also takes a village working together to have a safe neighborhood to live in. A neighborhood is a place with people you can depend on especially in a time of need.
We plan to do a beta-test beginning with our neighborhood (Sunset Ridge in Burlington, NJ)
Our goal is to test this and then expand to other neighborhoods as quickly as possible. The faster we expand, the more families we can help.
Please be sure to see our Huxley Hugs and Huxley Alert and Neighborhood Watch Programs pages while you're here.
